Old hall modernised in Fitz
PROJECT TITLE Fitz Village Hall, Shrewsbury, Redevelopment - Phase I
REGION Midlands
AWARD £30,000
Fitz village hall has been transformed the hall into a modern, accessible building suitable for community events and meetings with the help of funding from the Trust.
The work involved building a new extension and the creation of a new, accessible entrance and lobby space, a meeting room, new storage areas and new toilets, including one with full disabled facilities.
The hall was built in 1931 although the main building was in good condition it lacked insulation, was hard to heat and was inaccessible to people with disabilities and wheelchair users. The timber extension had rotted and needed demolishing.
Since the refurbishment, the hall is now at the center of village life. The project has made the building more environmentally friendly, with the installation of energy efficient lighting and heating, and insulation for the walls and ceiling.
